Sacred Hot Stone Massage
This type of therapeutic massage originates from the people of the Lakota nation who used sacred hot stones to aid in the purification of the body, mind, and spirit. The intent is to bring the stones, known as Grandfather’s bones or those of our ancestors to the physical realm of touch. The heated stones are placed on the body's energy centers and are used to gently massage the muscles with uplifting essential oils. The result is total body relaxation. The Lakota people heat similar stones in a fire for their sacred sweat lodges to aid in purification of the body, mind, and spirit.
In a sacred stone massage session the sweat lodge ritual is modified to meet the individual needs of each person. Hot stones are placed on the body’s energy points that are in need of penetrating healing and deep release. Essential oils are used to massage the client’s muscles with a heated stone resulting in a heat infused, uplifting entire body relaxation. The experience generally leaves the client feeling grounded, purified, and completely whole.
